Damage control
The phone rang bright and early this morning. It was Verizon about a way past-due cell phone bill. Seems one of my son's "friends" talked him into signing up for a cell phone for him and putting it in his name. (My son has high-functioning autism and unfortunately can be easily talked into just about anything). The bill is $580, and it will cost $175 for early termination.
I am so angry that this kid took advantage of my son. He even racked up hundreds of dollars of overage charges. I am angry that Verizon signed up my son for an account considering he doesn't have a job and never has had one.
This is what I am going to have to watch out for over the next few years or for my son's lifetime, depending on if he ever comes to understand the concept that some people will try to use him. Unfortunately, even when I get guardianship of him, I won't automatically know when he signs a contract. I may not know until too much damage has been done.
