In the UK they've passed a law saying that smokers will not be allowed to become foster parents, do you think this is fair?
Absolutely. I grew up in a household with two smoking parents. My Dad quit when I was about 6 because of a lung tumor, and Mom quit when I was about 16. Whenever I had a cold, it always turned into bronchitis or a whooping cough type of thing. I thought all colds and flu were that bad.
I just quit smoking myself 2 years ago and guess what? Colds and flu aren't that bad. Now I get a cold and it maybe lasts for a week and I hardly ever cough.
Smoking is horrible for children to be around.
What is different or new about your life this year that you're thankful for?
This is an easy one. Anyone who reads my blog will know my answer. I am thankful that this year I will be healthy again and hopefully soon will be able to get a job. For those who don't know, I had back surgery a few months ago and it took away all the pain and symptoms I had been suffering with for over 5 years.
Why do you make some purchases online and others in-store? What ultimately prompts you to go in-store?
Sponsored by Best Buy.I shop online when I can, in store when I have to. I hate crowds and traffic.
One thing that keeps me from coming back to a store: "Impulse buying" displays. You know, where they make the customers walk through a maze of candy displays and magazine racks and shelves of last-minute you-know-you-need-it items. Here's a tip for you Joann Fabrics and Blockbuster Video: I HATE those mazes to the checkout. I want to go in, get what I need, and get out without feeling like I have to earn a piece of cheese to get to the cash register.
I was checking out at a department store the other day and mentioned to the cashier how customers really don't like having to navigate around all the shelving to get to the cash register. She thought I was complimenting them on their ingenuity. Yeah, like customers are really going to like being corralled like cattle to squeeze out every last penny we have.
What home improvement would you most like to make to your apartment or house?

I really need a new roof. It's 30 years old, and there are a few shingles missing. Unfortunately, estimates I've gotten run anywhere from $4k to $7k, which are completely out of my price range at the moment.
What’s the biggest challenge parents currently face when raising their children?
Sponsored by Blogs.com.
Other parents, or rather children raised by other parents. The parents who think their kids are angels and do no wrong, or the parents who scream or beat their kids and then wonder why they turn into bullies. Or the parents who are too strung out on dope or booze to remember they even have kids.
Or the parents who ignore their teenage girls and let them run wild, until their daughter ends up pregnant, then they kick them out on the street. (My son actually knows 3 girls this happened to. We just found out about another one last week).
And of course who can forget the parents who leave their kids because they've "fallen in love" or "can't deal with it" anymore.
What is the one word you would use to describe how you feel after a week of work?
Blessed.

Soap and water.
You crash your friend's car because you're driving too fast in bad weather. Everyone's okay, but the car has to go into the shop. Who pays the deductible?
I'll answer this question with a question. Why does the author of this question assume everyone is an irresponsible idiot who would drive in bad weather and drive too fast?
How are the recycling services in your city? Is recycling important to you?
Our town has a recycling center/transfer station. And we have a very visible reminder to recycle: A mountain of a landfill a couple miles from our house.
We don't recycle nearly as much as we should, but we try. Our transfer station has a building where you can put things you don't want so other people can take them. It's a nice way to reuse things. When the boys were little, they loved Saturdays because it was like Christmas... they always found toys in the transfer station. We had a rule though...they could only take as many things as they brought to recycle. If they brought 3 old toys to leave there, then they could take 3 home. My youngest was the luckiest. He found 2 Lite-Brites, rollerblades, ice skates, skis, and tennis rackets there. The coolest thing I got was a bamboo stand with 4 shelves.
This spring I want to start a compost pile. We have so many vegetable scraps, and I hate to throw them in the trash.
How do you feel about your birthday? Do you look forward to it and remind all your friends, or do you dread it and try to keep it a secret?
It's just another day.
